Description
Synthetic broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic — a powerful second-line treatment for resistant and difficult-to-treat bacterial infections in ornamental fish.
When to choose Ciprofloxacin: Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic — a step up in potency from penicillin-class antibiotics like amoxicillin. It is particularly effective against gram-negative bacteria and is the go-to treatment when columnaris, resistant infections, or septicemia do not respond to first-line antibiotics. Also note the very concentrated dosing — far less water volume per tablet compared to most other fish antibiotics.
About This Product
Ciprofloxacin is a synthetic, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive bacterial microorganisms. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication, making it highly effective against bacteria that have developed resistance to other antibiotic classes.
Each tablet contains USP-grade ciprofloxacin — available in 250mg and 500mg strengths, both in 100-tablet counts. It is one of the most potent aquarium antibiotics available without a prescription and is widely considered the gold-standard treatment for columnaris, gram-negative septicemia, and resistant bacterial infections in ornamental fish.
Also commonly searched as: cipro for fish, fish ciprofloxacin, aqua cipro equivalent, ciprofloxacin aquarium treatment, fish flox equivalent.
Commonly Treats
- Columnaris (mouth rot / saddleback)
- Bacterial hemorrhagic septicemia
- Resistant fin rot & tail rot
- Gram-negative internal infections
- Dropsy (bacterial origin)
- Gill disease & respiratory distress
- Open ulcers & body sores
- Infections unresponsive to penicillin-class antibiotics
Directions for Use
- Determine your dose: Use one 250mg tablet per 1 gallon of water, or one 500mg tablet per 2 gallons of water. Treat in a hospital/quarantine tank whenever possible.
- Dissolve the tablet in a small amount of aquarium water before adding to the tank. Stir until fully dissolved.
- Add directly to your aquarium, pond, or hospital/quarantine tank.
- Repeat every 24 hours for 5–7 days. Do not exceed 7 days of continuous treatment.
- Perform a 25% water change each day before re-dosing to maintain water quality and reduce antibiotic buildup.
