Annual ryegrass is very quick to germinate normally in a matter of 7 to 10 days. It is light green in color and grow great all winter. If left uncut it can grow 2 to 4 ft. tall. As a cover crop annual ryegrass will help to get rid of nematodes - eliminating the need for chemicals. It is an effective catch crop for soils with excess nitrogen and is great for erosion control and minimization of soil compaction. Ryegrass can be used for grazing of cattle, silage and hay production. For wildlife food plots annual ryegrass provides high-quality grazing and a quick source of energy for geese, ducks, wild turkeys, rabbits, deer and elk.
