Production Red
It is our hatchery's highest producing, most efficient brown egg layer that was originally developed from a Rhode Island Red crossed with a New Hampshire.

   
 
Russian Orloff 
The Orloff is a tall well feathered chicken with a somewhat game-like appearance.  The head and neck are thickly feathered.  They come in many colors.  They are reasonable layers of light brown eggs, and do not go broody.  They are known to be relatively calm birds.

   
 
Hamburgs (Assorted, Silver, Golden)
`Hamburgs are a very old domesticated breed of poultry that originated in Holland.  They are classified as a white skinned, ornamental, non-sitting, good layer of medium size white-shelled eggs.
The Silver Spangled Hamburg and Golden Spangled Hamburg have similar attributes except for the coloring.
Hamburgs are alert, active foragers.  Although egg size is medium they are small eaters and cost less to keep than most breeds.  

   
 
Sicilian Buttercup 
This rare breed hails from Sicily as its name suggests.  100% of the Buttercup stock in North America came from hatching eggs brought here in 1892.
It is a fair egg layer of white eggs.

   
 
Barnevelder
The Barnevelder originates from the Barnevelder region of Holland.  It is sought after for its deep rich brown "chocolate" looking eggs.  This is a hardy bird that has proved to be a good layer.

   
 
Welsummer
The Welsummer is a reasonably placid breed that is well suited for the small scale domestic environment.  It is known for laying a deep reddish brown egg, some are even speckled!

   
 
Speckled Sussex
A medium sized bird with a quiet disposition.  The color of the plumage is distinct, unique and beautiful.  Good egg layer...Brown eggs

   
 
Naked Necks (Turkens)

Unusual- Do not have feathers on the neck and only about 1/2  as many on the body.  Look as if they may be a turkey chicken cross.
Very good egg layers.  Lay tinted eggs.

   
 
D'Uccle (Bantams)
Very showy bantams.  Standard weight for male is 26 oz, female 22 oz.  D'Uccle's come assorted so their color could vary from all white to dark with brown.   White egg layer (but small).



 
 
New Hampshire Red
A very popular dual purpose breed that grows fast, feathers quickly and produces large brown eggs.

   
 
Feathered Cochins
The feathers on a cochin curve outward and forward giving the appearance of going through a windstorm.  The frizzle appearance does not show as a baby chick, because the frizzle trait does not breed true 1/4 of birds will have normal feathering .  Typically lays white eggs.

   
   
Lakenvelder
Lakenvelders are of German Origin and are known for their unique, distinct color plumage pattern.  They are very active, good hustlers, relatively small and efficient egg producers.

Red Sex Link -Black Sex Link
An outstanding color sexing cross of Rhode Island Reds crossed with Delawares that have been bred for high, efficient egg production and excellent livability.  Brown egg layer.

Andalusian (Blue)
The blue laced color does not breed true.  A mating of blue x blue produces three colors- black, blue and a splash (white with a blue cast) Excellent white egg layer.

   
 
Minorca
Beautiful bird with white skin.  The shanks and toes are pinkish white. Very good white egg layer.

   
 
Brahama
Brahmas have massive bodies, pea combs, fully feathered shanks and toes and a striking, stately appearance.  Brahmas are very hardy and have a quiet temperament that makes them an excellent choice for pets.  Brown egg layer.

   
 
Barred Rock
Barred Plymouth Rocks are one of the most popular brown egg breeds.  Adult hens are large enough so that they can be salvaged for meat when their use as laying hens is over.  All of the feathers are barred, black and white, which results in uniformity of color throughout.  Barring is a sex-linked characteristic, which makes the females much darker than the males because they have twice the amount of black per bar.  The body is rather long, broad and deep.  The back is long and broad throughout the entire length with a slight concave sweep to the tail..  The beak, feet, and legs are yellow.

 
 
Ameraucanas
Ameraucanas were developed in the United States in the 1970's.  Ameraucanas were developed as a breed to produce green and blue eggs without having the disadvantages associated with breeding Araucanas.  They are excellent egg producers and large enough to be used for meat when their use as layers is over.  Chicks are multicolored with pea combs, beards and muffs.  They have clean, light black or gray legs and feet.  The health industry has promoted Ameraucana eggs as having little or no cholesterol.  This has proven to be false.  Note the picture of the chicken can vary greatly with this breed.  Ameraucanas come in many colors.

 
 
Rhode Island Red
The Rhode Island Red is one of the best known breeds and is classified as a dual-purpose breed although today only a few are used for meat production.  Most of them are used for egg production and the breed is known for the high production of large brown eggs.  Hen mature size is large enough that they can be used for meat following their use as laying hens.  The color of both the male and female is primarily a lustrous, rich dark or mahogany red with a black tail.  Rhode Island Red chicks are dark red with some having even darker red streaks down the back.  They have clean legs and feet.  From the time the chicks hatch until maturity, Rhode Island Reds may have white on the wing tips.  When the birds are fully matured, they should not have any white feathers.

 
 
Delaware's
Delaware's are a relatively new breed that was first developed in the state of Delaware.  This breed has been developed as a dual-purpose breed with excellent egg production and superior meat characteristics.  The Delaware chicks are primarily a light yellow or cream with some having a few black specks or spots mostly on top of the head, wings, and wing tips.  They have single combs and clean, yellow legs and feet.

 
 
Jersey Black Giants
As indicated by their name, Black Giants are very large and present an imposing sight.  they are totally black although they do not generally have the green sheen that is common in Black Australorps.  Black Giants have a rather long, broad back.  The beak is black, shading to yellow toward the tip.  Both males and females have combs that are single and straight with six well defined points.  despite the fact that Black Giants are very large as adults, they grow slower than most of the dual-purpose breeds and should not be considered when selecting a breed to be used for producing broiler meat.
Jersey Black Giants are brown egg layers.

 
 
Bantams
The Bantams that we carry are not sexed and are assorted breeds.  This makes it difficult to give an accurate description.  Bantams are the most broody of all breeds.  Bantam and standard make excellent mothers.  Many times they are used to hatch and mother other breeds of poultry.


 
 
Black Australorps
This breed is one of the most prolific egg producers of brown eggs and is know for persistence of lay or laying at a high rate for a long period of time.  Hen mature size is large enough that they can be used for meat following their use as laying hens.  The green sheen of this solid black plumage bird presents a truly beautiful sight, particularly when the sun is reflecting off the plumage.  the chicks are primarily black with white wing tips, chest and abdomen.  From the time the chicks hatch until they are fully mature, Black Australorps have white on their wing tips.  When they are fully mature they will be solid black.

 
 
Buff Orpingtons
Orpingtons are heavy but loosely feathered, appearing to be much heavier than their true weight.  All of the plumage is a rich golden buff.  Beaks, shanks and toes are pinkish white.  The chicks are light buff or straw colored.  The beautiful rich golden color and quiet disposition has helped Buff Orpingtons become one of the most popular dual-purpose breeds.  They are one of the broody standard breeds and generally are excellent mothers.  Brown egg layer.

 
 
Guinea
This is a family of insect, seed eating and  ground nesting birds that resemble partridges but with featherless heads.  Very popular in the South for eating ticks and bugs.

 
 
Silver Laced Wyandotte
The close fitting, sharply marked, silver laced plumage is one of the most beautiful color patterns ever developed.  The male and female have a completely different plumage appearance.  The chicks are black with white streaks down the back.  The Silver Laced Wyandotte is a hardy, active, medium weight, dual-purpose fowl used for production of both eggs and meat, but primarily for eggs.  Brown egg layer.

 
 
Dominique
The Dominique is a medium sized bird with all of the feathers being black and white barred, which results in uniform color throughout.  They are very similar in appearance to the Barred Plymouth Rock.
Chicks are mostly black with a white spot on the top of the head.   Many times customers who want Barred Plymouth Rocks will ask for "Dominikers" and an explanation of the difference between Barred Rocks and Dominique is necessary.  Dominiques have a rose comb; Barred Rocks have a single comb.   Dominiques are smaller in body size than Barred Rocks.  Brown egg layers.

 
 
Salmon Faverolle
Faverolles have a very stocky appearance with a short, thick, well-arched neck and a broad, flat, almost square back.  Their body is deep and compact and their breast is broad, deep and carried well forward.  
The striking difference in male and female plumage patterns makes this variety a very interesting breed.  They are one of only a few standard breeds that lay cream-colored or tinted eggs.

 
 
Brabanter (Cream)
Brabanters are a very old Dutch breed that lay a large white egg, they do not have feathers on their legs.  Brabanters are good foragers, they are good at flying and climbing.

 
 
Bantams, Silkies (Assorted)
The silkies that we carry are not sexed and are assorted breeds, this makes it difficult to give an accurate description. Silkie Bantams are the most broody of all breeds, bantam or standard make excellent mothers.  Many times they are used to hatch and mother other breeds of poultry.

 
 
Silver Phoenix
The adult version of the Phoenix breed are relatively small with hens weighing four pounds or less .  The female head is silvery white and the neck is silvery white with a narrow stripe of black.  The front of the neck is light reddish salmon with the breast being salmon, shading to gray at the sides.
Note that the picture is of a male.  Many times Phoenix males display pictures with their tails four feet or longer.  Without specific, individualized  management, growers should not expect the male  tails to reach that length although they will be noticeably longer than most other breeds.  Hens are typically not broody.  They lay creamy white eggs.

 
 
Cukoo Maran
The Cukoo Maran has black and white branded feathers similar in appearance to a Barred Rock.  Eggs are dark chocolate brown.  Hens can weigh up to 7lbs.

 
 
Buckeye's
Buckeye's are a rich mahogony color with dark gray tips on their feathers.  They lay brown eggs.

 
 
Anconas
Anconas were originally known as Black Leghorns because of their color which is black with evenly white tipped feathers.
Anconas are very active, good hustlers and a good choice for the production of large white eggs.

 
 
Brown Leghorns
Leghorns are one of the the best known breeds of chickens.    Their color pattern makes it more difficult for varmints to detect. They lay white eggs.

 
 
Mottled Houdans
All feathers of a Mottled Houdan are either black or black with a V-shaped white tip.  They have a very unique appearance with a crest or crown of plumage on the head, V-shaped comb and five toes on each foot.  Houdans lay large white eggs.
Houdans are a rare breed kept mainly for the uniqueness.

 
 
White Crested Polish
The most striking characteristics of the Polish fowl are the large protuberance or knob on top of the skull.  from which the crest of feathers grow, and the large cavernous nostrils, which are found only in crested breeds.  This a very unique variety with a dramatic difference between crest color and the color of the remaining adult plumage.  White egg layers.

 
 
Cochins
Cochins are quite massive in appearance with an extraordinary amount of long, soft plumage and an abundance of down fiber in the under fluff producing a bulky appearance and conveying the idea of greater weight than actually exists.  Assorted Cochins come in a variety of Barred, Black, Blue, Buff, Golden Laced, Partridge, Red, Silver Laced and White Cochins, which have not been sold as specific rare breed Cochins.  Egg color varies on hen...Mostly brown although some will lay a white egg.

 
 
Pekin Duck
One of the most popular domestic ducks.  White plumage, very versatile, seen in many ponds.

 
 
Mallard Duck
One of the most familiar ducks.  Males have a bright green head with a pale body.  Females are a dull brown all over.

 
 
Runner Ducks
Runner ducks have a long history of being herded.  After many generations they evolved into ducks that could travel long distances at a quick pace.

   
 
White Crested Duck
The white crested duck is pure white with orange feet and bills.  Very similar to a Pekin duck except for the large crest of feathers on top of their head.

   
 
Chinese Geese
(Sold In Pairs Only)
The Chinese Goose is often known as one of the most popular domestic breeds of geese.  They are lightweight weighing between 8-12lbs.  Some are excellent egg layers managing up to 80 eggs per year, but a more reasonable number is 30-40 eggs per year.


   
 
Turkey (Bronze)
The Bronze Turkey is named for its unusual color, a shimmering green-bronze which appears metalic in the sunlight.  Bronze Breasted Turkeys are said to be calmer than their counterpart the White Turkey. The Bronze Turkey is only available as a straight run.
